Each time her husband, Ernie Kovacs, lost big at poker, actress Edie Adams bought herself a chinchilla coat or antique harpsichord.

When the bills for those purchases arrived, he’d say, “We can’t afford this!”

She’d respond, “Simple, just stop gambling.”
